Sports Daily Digest January 31, 2026

South Ripley downed Jac-Cen-Del 65-48 in the opener of a girls/boys basketball doubleheader in Versailles as heard last night on the Sports Voice. Raider senior Kaiya Rinear led all scorers with 19 points and pulled down 15 rebounds. Teammate Ellie Combs added 17 and Evelyn Kelly chipped in 11. Brinley Simon led the Eagles with 13 points; Brooklyn Simon added 11 and Tinley Enneking contributed 10 points. Ripley improves to 16-7 overall and 5-1 in the ORVC, and clinches at least a tie for the conference championship. JCD falls to 6-15 and 1-4.

In the nightcap featuring the boys, it was  Connersville over South Ripley 64-51. Drew Volz led the Raiders with 14 points, and Blake Gunter added 11. The Spartans Hunter Allen exploded for 28 points. Teammates Jay McMullen added 12 and Chase Courter had 10 points. With the loss, South Ripley falls to 12-5.

Elsewhere in boys hoops last night, Class 3A #4 Batesville edged North Decatur 60-55; Columbus East nipped East Central 53-51; Greensburg knocked off Lawrenceburg 64-45; Oldenburg Academy got past Jac-Cen-Del 55-54; Jennings County toppled Franklin County 59-44, and it was Southwestern (Hanover) 68, Milan 57.

Also in girls’ basketball last night, Class 4A #15 East Central upended 3A #11 Connersville 48-43 at the Spartan Bowl. Natalie Stenger scored 21 points and Audrina Dugan added 12 for the Trojans, who end the regular season at 19-3 and win the EIAC title with a perfect 7-0 conference mark. It’s EC’s fifth conference championship in the last eight years…Class 1A #6 Oldenburg dumped Columbus East 46-36. Gina Grote scored 20 points and Norah Haverkos pulled down 10 rebounds for the Twisters, who head into sectional play next week at 19-3…And  Waldron turned back Milan 61-28.

In other boys games on this Saturday, East Central crosses the state line into Ohio to play Harrison; Jac-Cen-Del is at Trinity Lutheran; S0uth Ripley hops the bus to Lawrenceburg; Milan journeys to Switzerland County; Oldenburg entertains Waldron; South Decatur hosts New Washington, and North Decatur heads to Tri.

On the girls hoops schedule, Franklin County welcomes South Dearborn; Jac-Cen-Del is at Southwestern (Hanover), and South Decatur goes to Brown County.

The Indiana Pacers homestand resumes tonight when they face the Atlanta Hawks. WRBI coverage begins following high school basketball.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco has been added to the AFC roster for the 2026 Pro Bowl Games. This marks the first Pro Bowl selection for the 18 year veteran. He joins Bengal teammates and wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins on the AFC squad. The 2026 Pro Bowl Games take place Tuesday night in San Francisco.
