Ruth Pauline Amrhein, age 98 of Liberty

Ruth Pauline Amrhein, of Liberty, was born on December 20, 1927, the cherished daughter of Henry J. and Adelia M. Hudson Lingg. She was a proud graduate of Connersville High School. On November 26, 1953, Ruth was united in marriage to Charles William Amrhein at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Connersville, and together they created a life filled with love. Ruth was a devoted member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church for many years. She was employed by GTE Phone Company for more than 38 years before retiring in 1984. Ruth began her career with GTE shortly after high school in the business office and later worked her way up to operating switching devices.

Ruth enjoyed anything related to the great outdoors. She was always willing to help on the family farm, whether baling hay or operating the combine during harvest. She especially loved tending to her flower beds and doing yard work. She was known for driving around in her John Deere Gator with a generator on the back to power her electric weed eater, a task she happily continued well into her mid-90s. When she wasn’t outside, Ruth enjoyed quilting, often alongside her quilting group. In her later years, before her husband Charles passed away, the two became known as “meals-on-wheels,” delivering lunch and dinner to those working in the fields to keep them going.

On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the age of 98, Ruth passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Envive of Beech Grove.

Those surviving who will carry Ruth’s legacy forward include her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Linda Amrhein of Liberty, Indiana; one brother, Howard Lingg; two brothers-in-law, Jim (Jenny) Amrhein and George (Kim) Amrhein; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of over 62 years, Charles William Amrhein; and three brothers, Francis Lingg, Russell Ling, and Louis Lingg.

Father Jack Wright will officiate a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Guardian Angels Oratory, 405 US-52, Cedar Grove, IN 47016, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Friends and family may visit from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
