William Edward “Ed” Nugent, 76, of Westport, passed away 7:43 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at his residence. He was born on January 21, 1949, in Greensburg, Indiana, the son of Fred and Mary (Beesley) Nugent. He was a lifelong resident of Decatur County and a 1967 graduate of Jackson High School. Ed was a truck driver and drove for several different trucking companies. He enjoyed fishing and working on the farm. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. Survivors include his daughters, Darlene Wright of Westport and Rebecca “Becky” Hollin of Kentucky; his son, Mike (Amanda) Nugent of Westport; his sister, Mary Lou (Don) Stout of Ohio; his brothers, Joe Nugent of Ohio, Robert (Judy) Nugent of Westport, Tom (Patti) Nugent of Greensburg and Larry Nugent of Westport; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Cheavy; his great grandchildren, Evan Wright and Melody Henthorne; sons-in-law, Chris Hollin and Jerome J. Wright. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. January 19, 2026, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. Connie Barr officiating. Burial will follow at Bearcreek Cemetery with military graveside rites. A time of visitation will be held on Monday, January 19 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
