Shirley J. (Wehmeyer) Smith, 74, of Milan passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, Kentucky. Shirley was born on Friday, December 14, 1951, in Batesville; daughter of Ernest and Dorothy (Housemeyer) Wehmeyer. Shirley married the love of her life, Ronald Smith, on September 19, 1970, and he survives her. Shirley was a secretary for Dillsboro United Methodist Church as well as the Dillsboro Life Squad. She was a member of Cedars of Lebanon Church in Dillsboro. She loved horses, reading, and singing. Most of all Shirley dearly loved her family.
Shirley will be missed by her husband Ronald Smith of Milan; son Ronald (Cheryl) Lamar of Savannah, Georgia; daughter Velvet (Harry) Witteride of Dillsboro; grandchildren Phillip Witteride, Kyle Witteride, and Logan Lamar; and great-grandchildren Charles Witteride, Hunter Witteride, Shophia Witteride, and Lucy Witteride.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Dorothy Wehmeyer.
Family and friends may gather in remembering Shirley from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM, Friday, January 2, 2026, at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. Services will follow at 12:00 PM with Pastor Deb Beason officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. Memorials may be given in honor of Shirley to the family.
