Crews from Manchester Township Fire and Rescue were sent to a home along Platt Road shortly after 10 a.m. following reports of a structure fire and concerns that an older adult was still inside the residence.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and immediately entered the home, locating the resident and escorting them out before the fire spread further through the structure. Emergency officials said the quick rescue prevented a potentially fatal outcome.
Additional departments were called in to assist, including Miller-York Fire, Sunman Fire, Milan Fire, Sunman EMS, and the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office, helping contain the fire and secure the scene.
Once the resident was safely outside, crews focused on extinguishing the blaze and stopping it from extending beyond the home. Authorities said no other injuries were reported.
The identity of the rescued resident has not been released, and officials have not provided details about their condition. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Fire officials are expected to continue reviewing the scene and gathering information as part of the standard follow-up process.
