Sharon Ann (Williams) Barbour, 69, of Rising Sun, Indiana, a woman of deep faith and a love of helping others, gained her angel wings Sunday, December 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Milan, Indiana, August 27, 1956, a daughter to the late Bea (Browning) Williams and LeRoy Junior Williams. Sharon was a 1974 graduate of Rising Sun High School. She continued her education at Indiana University receiving her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1980, and at Ball State University to receive her Masters of Education (M.Ed.) in 1987.
Sharon began her teaching career at Jefferson Craig prior to transferring to Switzerland County Elementary (SCES) when it first opened in 1980. Sharon’s 35 year tenure included her enthusiastic engagement with her students as Elementary Basketball Coach, Elementary Cheerleading Coach, and Coach of SPELL BOWL in addition to her classroom activities and leadership. She also worked to improve her peers working experience serving as President of the Switzerland County Teachers Association (SCTA), as Building Representative at District Council, and on the Contract Bargaining Committee. Sharon loved teaching and loved helping young children learn and develop. She nurtured several young persons over the years as her heart was full of giving and caring.
Sharon was over the moon when she welcomed her first born, Dustin Lee White in April, 1983. Sharon solidified her family unit marrying Myron Barbour July 1990. Soon she opened her arms and heart to mother Haley Elizabeth Williams, born January, 1993. And Sharon had much more love and energy which she showered on her many nieces and nephews. Sharon loved family. Game night was a favorite and the board games came out whenever she could get the family together. And she usually won! Sharon finally gave herself a bit of rest by retiring from Switzerland County School Corporation in 2016.
Sharon has been a life long member of the Church of Christ, initially at Pleasant Ridge and most recently she served the Lord with the Rising Sun Church of Christ. Always a woman of strong faith, her opportunity to experience heaven helps to console her loving family.
Throughout the years Sharon loved traveling to the beaches of Florida and South Carolina, driving her mother, Bea, and nephew, DJ, in later years. After retirement, she and her sister, Sandy and niece often traveled together, most recently ocean cruising. Taking her two beautiful granddaughters, Maddison and Addy, on a Disney cruise was a week of laughter, fun, and amazement. She had an upcoming trip planned with the girls and her adventurous grandson, Cash. These memories will be held tightly.
Sharon was preceded in death by her mother, father, twin sister Karen Smith, and her nephew, Jason Smith. She is survived by her devoted husband, Myron, her loving children Dustin and Haley, her sisters Sandra Gilligan, Connie Lou Smith, and brother, Kenneth Lee Williams.
