(Statewide) – Indiana State Parks and America’s State Parks are keeping a 30-year tradition alive by hosting First Day Hikes to start the New Year.
First Day Hikes take place on January 1 in all 50 states with a goal of fostering healthy lifestyles and promoting year-round recreation at state parks, properties, and lakes.
Two Indiana DNR properties in our area will host First Day hikes:
- Brookville Lake. Meet at the Campground Shelter at Mounds State Recreation Area at 11 a.m. to hike the Wildlife Wander Trail, a .75-Mile hike that should take approximately 45 minutes to complete.
- Versailles State Park. Meet at the Oak Grove parking lot at 10 a.m. for a moderate 2-mile hike over sections of trails two and three. Light refreshments will be available at Oak Grove Shelter after the hike.
If you participate, DNR encourages you to wear sturdy, comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.
