Emsweller Named Interim Animal Shelter Director

(Greensburg/Decatur County) – Brenda Emsweller has stepped in as interim director of the Greensburg/Decatur County Animal Shelter.

This comes following the passing of shelter director Minde Myers last weekend.

Myers died at the age of 54 following an illness.

She served as shelter director for the past five years.

Meanwhile, the Greensburg/Decatur County Animal Shelter staff strongly encourage everyone with outdoor pets to provide adequate shelter that protects them from the harsh weather.

This includes using straw or other bedding materials, as well as ensuring your pet has access to extra food and water during periods of extreme cold.

If you need straw for bedding, the shelter is available to help during business hours, which are Tuesday through Friday from Noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Residents are asked to assist the shelter in helping animals truly in need.

If you observe an animal outside during extremely cold weather, please assess whether the animal requires intervention before contacting Emergency Services.

Shelter officials remind you that animals may be outside temporarily to relieve themselves, and you should allow a reasonable amount of time before making a call, because unnecessary reports can prevent Animal Control Officers and law enforcement from responding to genuine emergencies.
