Ms. Mary Elizabeth (Lucas) Smith

Ms. Mary Elizabeth (Lucas) Smith, age 74, entered this life on September 20, 1951 in Falmouth, Kentucky. She was one of 16 children born to the late Charles Otis and Irene (Stamper) Lucas. Mary was raised in Falmouth, Kentucky where she attended school. In 1971, Mary was united in marriage to Charles Virgil Smith in Kentucky. Mary dedicated many years of her life to serving children in her community. She was employed as a daycare teacher at First Steps Daycare in Carrollton, Kentucky, for over ten years. She later served as a custodian at Carroll County Middle School for more than four years and concluded her working career at Kathryn Winn Primary School in Carrollton, Kentucky, where she retired after over four years of service. Mary was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed shopping, watching television, walking, caring for both outdoor and indoor plants, and above all, spending cherished time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary passed away at 6:25 p.m., Monday, December 8, 2025, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, Indiana.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Crystal Richards and her husband, Shane of Vevay, IN; her son, Clifford William Smith of Elizabethtown, KY; her grandchildren, Michael Hall, Brett Hall, Gabriella Vaught and her fiancé, Quentin Garcia, Kassie Richards, Zachary Richards, and Shaylynn Richards; her great-grandchildren, Gary Keaton, Quesabali Garcia, and Averly Keaton; her sisters, Nancy Thompson, Marguaritte Wilhoite, and Janice Crabtree; her brothers, Ronnie, Ricky, and Bobby Joe Lucas; and her numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Otis and Irene (Stamper) Lucas; her sons, Charles “Joey” Lucas, died April 30, 1980 and Shannon Ray Lucas, died March 18, 2024; her grandson, Matthew Skyler “Matt” Richards, died December 16, 2017; her sisters, Bonnie Lucas, Geraldine Thomas, Betty Botkin, Patty Colton, and Charlotte Dickson; her brothers, Michael Lucas, David Lucas, Tommy Lucas, and James Lucas, Sr.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday, December 15, 2025, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Monday, December 15, 2025, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
