Houchin Launches Bipartisan Kids Online Safety Caucus

Congresswoman Erin Houchin (R-IN-09).

(Washington, D.C.) – Congresswoman Erin Houchin (R-IN-09) this week announced the launch of the bipartisan Kids Online Safety Caucus, dedicated to protecting children in the evolving digital world.

The caucus will serve as a hub for lawmakers, parents, educators, and industry experts to share information and develop practical solutions that keep children safe online.

The initiative comes as families across the country face rising concerns about social media harms, online exploitation, and the growing influence of artificial intelligence on young users.

“As a mother of three, I have seen how dangerous the online world has become for kids. Today, children are facing risks that parents could not have imagined even a decade ago. From social media and AI chatbots to video and gaming platforms, the potential dangers are evolving with every new technology and trend. It’s hard for both parents and policymakers to keep up.  That is why we are launching the Kids Online Safety Caucus. Families deserve real tools and clear information to help them navigate this rapidly changing digital age, and Congress must hold Big Tech accountable when their platforms put children at risk. Our goal for the caucus is simple: empower parents and protect kids,” said Rep. Houchin.

The new caucus will focus on:

  • Ensuring transparency and accountability from technology companies
  • Equipping parents with clear, accessible resources
  • Promoting bipartisan, constitutionally sound policy solutions
  • Monitoring emerging online risks, including AI-driven platforms
  • Supporting ongoing research on youth mental health and digital safety

The launch follows Houchin’s continued leadership on children’s online safety, including her work on the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) and the recently introduced AWARE Act, the first House bill to address AI chatbot companions and their risks to minors.

The newly formed caucus is led by Houchin and Congressman Jake Auchincloss (D-MA-04).

“Rep. Auchincloss has been a tremendous leader and partner on these important issues, and I’m looking forward to what we can accomplish together,” said Rep. Houchin.
