Dr. Frank L Burton 1941-2025

Dr. Frank L. Burton of Aurora, Indiana, died November 7, 2025, at the age of 83. He was an optometrist and practiced at 401 Third Street in Aurora for 50 years.

Frank was born on December 19, 1941 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Lt. Col. L.F. and Opal Burton. Because Frank was an “army brat,” he and his family lived in many places in the United States. He graduated from Jeffersonville (Indiana) High School and then attended Newberry College (South Carolina) on a basketball/baseball scholarship. He transferred to Indiana University and graduated from its School of Optometry. While at IU, he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He joined the US Army and served as a captain in the Medical Corps at Ft. Knox, KY. Frank and his wife Janet were married in 1966.

Frank was a strong supporter of his community. He was active in the Jaycees, a coach for SAY soccer, a member of the Dearborn County Chamber of Commerce and served on the board of the Dearborn County Hospital Foundation. In 1985, he joined the Aurora Lions Club. He served as Treasurer of Trinity Episcopal Church and was a long-time member of American Legion Post 0231.

Frank was an avid and talented golfer. He enjoyed reading science fiction, gardening and watching the Hoosiers play ball. He loved family trips and celebrating family milestones and greatly enjoyed the travel he and Janet were able to do after retirement.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Davey. He is survived by his wife, Janet, his daughters, Jennifer Jump (Troy) and Emily Burton (Pete Majors), grandson Andrew Jump and sister Virginia Nowakoski. In addition, he was close to his nephew Chris Howland (Patti), niece Anne London, great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
