Karyl Kay Schmidt, age 74 of Sunman

Karyl Kay Schmidt, age 74, of Sunman, Indiana, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025. She was born on February 25, 1951 in Batesville, Indiana to Kenneth and Verna Schmidt of Sunman.

Karyl was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She grew up in Sunman, attended Hanover College, and moved to Indianapolis where she spent many years working as a geologist for the State of Indiana. After retirement she moved back home to Sunman to be with her family and community that she cared deeply for.

Karyl was fond of Genealogy research, history about the town of Sunman, gardening, an avid Colt’s fan, and enjoyed crafting miniature German villages in her spare time. She was known for her warm heart, generous spirit, sense of humor, and love of family. Karyl brought joy to everyone who knew her and always had a kind word or helping hand for those in need. Her nieces and nephews will forever cherish the memories of the stories she told and the wealth of knowledge she shared. Karyl will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate to know her.

She is survived by her sister Loralee Cahill, her brother Tony Schmidt, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Verna Schmidt, brother David Schmidt, and brother Carl Schmidt.

Family and friends are invited to a graveside committal service on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Paul’s United Methodist Cemetery. An additional celebration of life and visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunman Community Church, 304 W. Vine Street, Sunman, IN 47041. Pastor Adam Boesken will lead the funeral service, beginning at 5:00 PM, with a time of fellowship and a shared meal to follow. All who knew and loved Karyl are welcome to join in remembering, sharing stories, and celebrating a life well lived.
