The Pacers have been bitten by the injury bug to start the season. Head coach Rick Carlisle said Tuesday that forward Obi Toppin will be out for at least a month with a right hamstring strain, and guard Bennedict Mathurin is week-to-week with a right big toe sprain. Both players left during Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Guard Mac McClung practiced with the team for the first time on Tuesday.
The Cincinnati Bengals made a series of roster moves on Tuesday. The team placed linebacker and special teamer Shaka Heyward (fibula) and center Matt Lee (knee) on the Injured Reserve List. Cincinnati also released defensive tackle Mike Pennel. The 11-year veteran played in eight games for the Bengals this season.
In college football, the Purdue Boilermakers are once again in a situation where they are in need of a win. They have lost six games in a row and take on #21 Michigan in Ann Arbor on Saturday. Head coach Barry Odom is urging players and fans not to lose hope even they sit at 2-6 on the year. Odom said this week that it was “gut-wrenching” the way they lost to Rutgers last week, because he feels that’s the most they have played as a team all year long. The Scarlet Knights won last Saturday, 27-24, on a field goal on the last play of the game.
