
Greensburg outlasted Jennings County in five sets (25-21 Jennings County, 25-22 Greensburg, 25-23 Jennings County, 25-21 Greensburg, 15-11 Greensburg) to claim the IHSAA Class 3A Sectional 29 volleyball championship at South Dearborn as heard Saturday night on the Sports Voice. The Pirates advance to this Saturday’s regional against Jasper at Bloomington North. Game time is 4 p.m. Greensburg won the semifinal match with Batesville in three sets earlier in the day.
North Decatur bested cross county rival South Decatur in four sets (25-15 North Decatur, 25-15 North Decatur, 25-16 South Decatur, 25-14 North Decatur) to take Class 1A Sectional 59 at Morristown. The Chargers head back to the Bee Hive on Saturday to face Trinity Lutheran in the Regional. First serve is at 1 p.m.

In other volleyball sectional championship games involving local teams, East Central fell in three sets to Franklin Community (27-25, 25-20, 25-16) in Class 4A Sectional 14 on the Grizzly Cubs’ home court…And South Ripley lost to Southwestern (Hanover) in five sets (25-13, 25-13, 23-25, 22-25, 13-15) in 2A Sectional 45 on the Raiders’ home planks.
In Class 1A Sectional 60 at Hauser, both Jac-Cen-Del and Oldenburg Academy were eliminated in Saturday’s semifinals: the Eagles in four sets by Rising Sun, and the Twisters in three by Trinity Lutheran.
Batesville boys soccer fell to Heritage Hills 3-1 in Saturday’s Class 2A Regional championship match at Washington…East Central girls soccer’s 3A Regional title match at Carmel was postponed on Saturday by severe weather until this evening. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
The Batesville girls edged East Central by three points to win the Rushville Cross Country Sectional championship on Saturday. Bulldog freshman Ava Wade (19:01) outran Trojan senior Callie Bentley (19:16) to finish first individually. The Batesville boys cross country team came in fourth and qualified for next weekend’s Shelbyville Regional. Advancing to regional as individual runners are Oldenburg’s Adam Dennis and Carson Hartwell, and Abe Hiltz from East Central.
Milan boys cross country is heading to regional after coming in fifth at Saturday’s sectional hosted by Hanover College. The Indians’ Gabe Riehle came in first individually (16:22) while teammate Lucas Cooney crossed the finish line in third (16:53).
The Greensburg boys and girls cross country teams are moving on to the Evansville Regional after placing third and fifth, respectively, at the Brown County Sectional. North Decatur runners Jackson White, Harper Gunn and Norah Amberger qualified for the next round as individual runners.

The Indianapolis Colts dumped the Los Angeles Chargers 38-24 in NFL action yesterday on the West Coast. Jonathan Taylor ran for 94 yards and three touchdowns. Daniel Jones threw for 288 yards and two TDs. With the win, the Colts improve to 6-1.
The Indiana Hoosiers continue to move up the college football rankings. After their 38-13 win over Michigan State on Saturday, the Hoosiers are up to #2 in the AP Top 25. This marks Indiana’s highest ranking in program history, and puts them second behind Big Ten rival Ohio State. Indiana will not face the Buckeyes in the regular season this year. The Hoosiers will take on UCLA at home this Saturday.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish had to claw out a 34-24 win over #20 USC on Saturday. It was a game that tested their resilience, according to head coach Marcus Freeman. Jadarian Price had a kickoff return for a touchdown and Jeremyiah Love rushed for a career high 228 yards. Notre Dame is up to #12 in the AP Poll as they head into a bye week. Their next game is in two weeks on the road at Boston College.
