Batesville boys soccer outlasted Madison in a 4-3 shootout to win the Class 2A Sectional 29 championship on the Bulldogs’ home pitch Saturday afternoon. BHS will host Charlestown in Wednesday night’s regional semifinal.
Oldenburg Academy knocked off Union County 2-1 in the Class 1A Sectional 44 title game at Jac-Cen-Del. It’s the Twisters’ fourth straight sectional crown. OA takes on Southwestern (Hanover) in Wednesday evening’s regional semis at Madison.
New Castle edged Greensburg 3-2 in the 2A Sectional 26 championship contest at Triton Central. The Pirates finish the season at 11-6-1.
East Central girls soccer got by New Palestine 1-nil to win the Class 3A Sectional 12 championship trophy Saturday night at St. Leon. The Trojans visit Franklin Central in Thursday evening’s regional semifinal.
It was Oldenburg Academy 10, South Ripley 0 in the 1A Sectional 44 final at Milan. The Twisters advance to Thursday’s regional semis at Monrovia. The Raiders finish the year at 8-7-1.
Defending state champion Lawrenceburg eliminated Batesville 1-nil in the 3A Sectional 29 title game in Tiger Town. The Bulldogs season ends at 11-6-1.
Oldenburg volleyball won the Edinburgh Tourney on Saturday to claim that event in back-to-back years. OA beat Lanesville, Rising Sun, and Seven Oaks before knocking off Southwestern (Hanover) in the championship match. The Twisters end the regular season at 25-5.
Greensburg boys cross country won Saturday’s eight-team EIAC meet at Batesville. The Pirates had 31 points; runner-up Batesville had 52 and third place East Central finished with 81. Greensburg’s Joe Hawkins is the boys meet individual champ (16:51). Batesville won the girls race with 32, followed closely by EC with 39. Greensburg came in third with 61 points. Bulldog freshman Ava Wade (18:52) held off Trojan senior Callie Bentley (18:59) to claim EIAC girls meet MVP.
Milan boys cross country finished second at the ORVC meet at Hanover College on Saturday. The Indians’ Gabe Riehle was the first individual runner to cross the finish line.
North Decatur girls cross country finished first for the second straight year in the Mid-Hoosier Conference meet at Morristown on Saturday. The Chargers Norah Amberger, Dorothy Robbins, Ava Lecher and Emerson Gunn made the all conference team. The North Decatur boys came in second behind Hauser. Jackson White, Harper Gunn and Eli Weisenbach were named to the all conference team.

In the NFL, it was the Green Bay Packers over the Cincinnati Bengals 27-18 at Lambeau Field. Quarterback Joe Flacco made his Bengals debut and threw for 219 yards and a pair of touchdowns – one to tight end Tanner Hudson and the other to All-Pro wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase. Cincinnati has dropped four straight and falls to 3-4 on the year.
The Indianapolis Colts rallied to beat the Arizona Cardinals 31-27 yesterday at Lucas Oil Stadium. Jonathan Taylor ran for 123 yards and a touchdown. Daniel Jones threw for 212 yards and a TD. He also ran for another score. With the win, the Colts improve to 5-1.
The Indiana Hoosiers are ranked #3 in this week’s AP Top 25 college football poll. It’s the highest ranking in program history, and comes on the heels of Saturday’s 10-point win at Oregon. Notre Dame moves up three spots to #13. UC has won five in a row and moves into the rankings for the first time this year at #24.
The Indiana Pacers are coming off a 135-134 preseason win over Oklahoma City on Saturday. Taelon Peter led Indiana with 18 points. The Pacers’ preseason continues tonight when they host the San Antonio Spurs. The team will wrap up exhibition play Friday night in San Antonio.
