Columbus North topped Batesville 4-1 in the IHSAA boys’ tennis regional Thursday evening. Coach Mitchell Taylor’s Bulldogs finish the season at 15-7.
Oldenburg girls soccer defeated Switzerland County 4-nil to advance to the sectional finals at Milan. Lydia Niese scored two goals while Claire Niese and Jayne Lamping also found the back of the net for the Twisters. OA meets South Ripley tomorrow night at 7 for the sectional crown. The Raiders blanked Rising Sun 2-nil.
Batesville girls soccer shut out Connersville 4-nil in the soccer sectional semifinals at Lawrenceburg. Bulldog goals were scored by defender Addie Fledderman, Maddie Prewitt (with an assist from Emma Miller), Hailee Weisenbach (with an assist from Reding) and Marley Denning (from another assist by Addie Reding). Sophomore goalie Bryn Oesterling is credited with the shutout. BHS will play the host Tigers in tomorrow night’s championship match.
Also in girls soccer sectional action, East Central shut out Greenfield-Central 5-nil. The host Trojans go up against New Palestine for the sectional title tomorrow night.
South Decatur volleyball downed Jac-Cen-Del in three sets. Scores were 25-19, 25-21, 25-8.
Oldenburg volleyball celebrated Senior Night at the Feldhaus with a three set win over Rushville (25-21, 25-13, 25-6). The Twister JVs were victorious two sets to one.

Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt, the chaplain for the Loyola Chicago men’s basketball team who became a beloved international celebrity during the Rambler’s fairy-tale run to the Final Four in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, died Thursday night. Health issues caused Sister Jean to step down from her role with the university in August. Sister Jean was 106.
The Indiana Pacers will be without the services of TJ McConnell for a while. The veteran point guard is out with an injured hamstring, and is expected to miss at least a month, says head coach Rick Carlisle. He says, regardless of health, the Pacers still have a lot to work on as the preseason progresses. They take on the Oklahoma City Thunder tomorrow in their second preseason game.
The Savannah Bananas are returning to Great American Ball Park in downtown Cincinnati next summer. After playing two sold out games at GABP last year, the Bananas will return the weekend of June 19-21 for three games. Fans interested in tickets can register for the Savannah Bananas Ticket Lottery now through October 31. A random drawing will be held two months prior to the games, and selected fans will have the opportunity to purchase tickets.
