East Central senior Rowan Pies recovered from a rough Friday by shooting an Even par on Saturday to finish tied for 20th individually. It’s the third straight year Pies has finished in the top 20 at the girls golf state finals.

Batesville boys tennis won the East Central sectional championship with a 5-love win over the host Trojans on Saturday morning. It’s the Bulldogs seventh consecutive sectional title and 15th in the last 16 years. Batesville improves to 14-6 in dual matches this year and will play Seymour in the opening round of the Columbus North Regional tomorrow night.

Batesville freshman cross country runner Ava Wade set a new personal best and school record with a time of 18:42 at the Nike Twilight Invitational in Terre Haute on Saturday night. Wade is the first BHS girls country runner to break the 19 minute mark. As a team, Batesville finished 31st out of 42. The BHS boys came in 60th out of 86 teams at the multi-state event.

Batesville volleyball downed North Decatur in four sets on Saturday. The Chargers won the first set (25-23) before the Bulldogs took the next three (25-22, 25-23, 29-27).

The Detroit Lions knocked off the Cincinnati Bengals 37-24 on Sunday at Paycor Stadium. The Bengals have dropped three in a row and fall to 2-3 on the season.

The Indianapolis Colts hammered the Las Vegas Raiders 40-6 at Lucas Oil Stadium. Jonathan Taylor ran for three touchdowns. The Colts improve to 4-1.

FOX analyst and former NFLquarterback Mark Sanchez is charged with battery resulting in injury, public intoxication, and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle after he was seriously injured in a stabbing in Indianapolis. Sanchez was charged early Sunday morning after police reviewed video footage of a fight between him and a 69-year-old man who was collecting used cooking oil for work. The older man told police he stabbed Sanchez several times when the latter kept advancing after he used pepper spray on him. Sanchez was in Indianapolis for the Colts-Raiders game when the incident occurred. He was replaced on Sunday’s broadcast by former Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn.
