It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Johnnie Ray Ingram of Milan, Indiana.
A beloved husband, father, Papaw, son, brother, nephew and friend. Johnnie Ray went to be with the Lord suddenly on Sunday, September 28, 2025. His passing has left us with profound sadness and loss; however, that cannot overshadow the light and love he showed us. His steadfast love, strength, humor and compassion impacted everyone he crossed paths with and will have a lasting effect far into the future.
Johnnie Ray was born to Frances Patricia “Patty” and Johnny Ingram on October 23, 1955, in Milan, Indiana. He married the love of his life, Melanie Lynn, on June 21, 1975. Together they built a life wholly devoted to their families and two sons. Johnnie Ray joined the United States Navy as a Seabee in 1975 and served through 1982.
Jesus was the foundation of his life, and he served a Trustee, Deacon and Treasurer of the First Baptist Church of Milan. Johnnie Ray gave his time and energy to help at church preparing for the weekly service and reading the morning announcements. He lived his life helping others and was willing to teach anything he knew to anyone who wanted to listen. Two things we can take comfort in is that he left us with faith and hope. Faith that he is with Jesus and his beloved wife Lynn and hope that we will join them one day for eternity.
Johnnie Ray was devoted to his wife, their two sons, and their families. He was always ready to share advice, his quick wit, or lend a helping hand when they needed him. He was known for his humor, his keen sense of how things work, his construction/woodworking skills, and his unwavering love. His love for his family was embedded in everything he did. He would sacrifice his time, and most often, his physical comfort to help whenever it was needed.
Johnnie Ray joins his beloved wife, Lynn; father, Johnny Ingram; mother, Patty Ingram; and sister, June McAdams in Heaven. He is survived by his sons John “J.R.” (Anne) of Clarkston, Michigan and Jacob “Ryan” (Stephanie) of Zionsville, Indiana; five grandchildren Jackson and Joseph of Zionsville, Indiana and Jonah, Madeleine and Isabelle of Clarkston, Michigan; aunt Carol Mulford (Aurora, Indiana); and siblings Frank Ingram (Rockport, Indiana), Jane Vinup (Milan, IN), Jim Ingram (Greensburg, Indiana), and Jeff Ingram (Milan, Indiana).
Visitation will be Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 1:00-4:00pm with a memorial service at 4:00pm at First Baptist Church of Milan, 112 South Main Street, Milan, IN 47031.
In lieu of flowers, Johnnie Ray asked for donations to be made to either First Baptist Church of Milan or Community Emergency Relief Food Pantry.
