Laurene E. Howard, age 92 formerly of Sunman

Laurene E. (Lattire) Howard, 92 years young, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Indiana, passed from this life on Friday, September 26, 2005 at St. Elizabeth Grant County in Williamstown, KY.

Laurene was born in Ripley County, Indiana on July 10, 1933 to Raymond and Edna (Hoff) Lattire. She grew up on a farm with her parents and nine brothers and sisters. She attended school in the Milan and Sunman communities and proudly graduated from Sunman High School in 1951.

She married Walter H. “Pete” Howard on July 30, 1955. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1986. She then married Allen L. Britton on January 14, 2000. He preceded her in death on October 7, 2016.

Laurene is survived by her son, Terry H. (Melanie Parlin) Howard of Cincinnati; her daughter, Tracey A. (Gary) Carter of Edinburgh, Indiana; and a step-son, Peter C. (Ginger) Howard of Honolulu, Hawaii. She is further survived by eight grandchildren, Ryan (Kellie) Howard, Josh (Kaitlin) Howard, Michael (Jacki) Richardson, Kelsey (Scott) Sebald, Matt J. Hutson, Jack Howard, Colleen Howard, and Riley (Annie) Howard, and eleven great-grandchildren. Her sister, Shirley Campbell, and brother Daren (Connie) Lattire, also survive.

In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters – Violet, Carol Jean, Connie, and Charlene, and three brothers, Dallas, Kendall, and Larry.

Laurene loved music, dancing, and was a talented singer. She enjoyed travelling across the country with her brothers and sisters. She was also an avid sports fan and particularly enjoyed golf, baseball, and basketball. She was a faithful follower of the Cincinnati Reds, Boston Celtics, and Indiana University basketball. Laurene was a master flower gardener and loved to work outside and mow grass. She adored her grandchildren and spent fifteen years as a teaching assistant at Milan Elementary School, a job she loved. She was of the Christian faith.

In accordance with Laurene’s wishes, there will be a private graveside service at the discretion of the family at St. John’s Cemetery in Penntown.
