The matriarch of the Indiana Pacers, Nancy Leonard, has died. Her family said she passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday night. The Pacers were in dire need of financial help in June 1977. As Pacers assistant general manager at the time next to her husband, Coach and GM Bobby “Slick” Leonard, she suggested the team hold a telethon to raise money. They needed to sell 8,000 season tickets to keep the Pacers in Indiana, so when she said 8,028, the crowd erupted with the joy, knowing they reached their goal. Nancy Leonard was 93 years old.
