Luella Bogenschutz, 91

Luella Bogenschutz, 91, of Indianapolis, formerly of Oldenburg, Indiana died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. She was born in Batesville, Indiana on November 10, 1933 to William and Veronica (Meyer) Kuntz.

Luella was the loving and beloved mother and grandmother of six children, twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. She is survived by daughters Teresa (Gordon) Hall, Deb (Dave) Hartman, Judy (Mark) Wilson, son Tom and daughter-in-law Lois Kremer (Greg). Luella will be sorely missed by her sister-in-law and life-long friend Patricia Kuntz and her “bonus” son Gregg Comer. She was preceded in death by sons Mike and Tony, grandson Ben Hall and twin great-granddaughters Sophie and Katherine as well as her sister Alice (Leonard) Meer, and brothers Emil (Pat) and Ralph (Sue) Kuntz.

Luella was blessed with a full life. She relished time and travel with her family and friends but especially looked forward to the annual family camp out, even sleeping in a tent until the last couple of years. She was an avid card player teaching euchre to many of her grandchildren who recruited her as an enthusiastic fourth hand at every family gathering. In her mid-forties she took up running, completing many half-marathons and finishing her final one at age seventy-five after which she learned to row. At fifty-five Luella went back to school to earn her associate degree in nursing. She worked as an RN at Community East Hospital until she retired. Her Catholic faith was the foundation of her life. Luella went to daily Mass and sought opportunities to strengthen her faith through Bible study, reading and podcasts. She took Communion to the home-bound, delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered in the parishes she attended, donated generously and prayed always.

Visitation is Monday, September 22, from 9:30 to 11:00 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 7243 E 10th St., Indianapolis 46219.
