David Ralph Barrett, 63, Sunman

David Ralph Barrett, known to his listeners as “Tom Bigbee,” hung up his headphones for the last time on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at the age of 63. He was born on February 18, 1962, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Jerry and Nellie (Clark) Barrett.

David proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Mount Whitney (LCC-20). Following his military service, he dedicated his life to radio, building a career that took him across the country and into the homes and hearts of countless listeners. He was a radio personality for WBVE in Cincinnati, WWZD in Tupelo, Mississippi, WYYW in Meridian, Mississippi, KKBQ in Houston, Texas, KFWR in Fort Worth, Texas, and most recently at WLW in Cincinnati. His voice, energy, and passion for broadcasting allowed him to connect deeply with the communities he served.

A devoted supporter of the Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals, David found great joy in cheering for his hometown teams. Most importantly, he treasured his family and will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and genuine care for others.

He is survived by his loving partner, Polly Merritt; his daughters, Christy Barrett and Mandy (Rick) Gabbard; stepson, Jon (Jamy) Boedicker; grandchildren, Isaac Barrett, Leah Gabbard, Cory Gabbard, Natalie Gabbard and Tobias “Bubba” Boedicker; brothers, Jeff (Tammy) Barrett, Mike (Sky) Barrett, Jerry (Andrea) Barrett, and Donald (Lisa) Barrett; sisters, Nancy Porter and Julie (Bob) Martin; his father, Jerry Barrett; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie, and brothers, Billy and Nick Barrett.

Visitation will be held for family and friends on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Meyers Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 PM, also at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by the Batesville VFW Post #3183 and Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. In celebration of David’s life and his love for the Cincinnati Bengals, the family kindly requests that guests wear Bengals attire to the services.
