(Decatur County, IN) – A fourth local county has been added to the list of areas in Southeastern Indiana in which mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile Virus.
The Indiana Department of Health indicated a recent sample taken in Decatur County came up positive.
This comes after positive tests were previously found in Ripley, Franklin and Dearborn counties.
Health officials recommended that you take precautions against mosquito bites to reduce the risk of contracting West Nile and other diseases caused by mosquito-borne viruses.
These include getting rid of breeding grounds by eliminating standing water; using bug repellant spray when outside and wearing pants and long sleeve shirts, particularly in the woods.
There have been 13 confirmed human cases of West Nile Virus statewide so far this year, but none in Southeastern Indiana.
