(Milan, IN) – A year-and-a-half of planning and fundraising mixed with hard work and determination concluded with area student Will Wheeler making a potentially-life-saving project a reality.

Through his Bee Alarmed Project, Wheeler purchased 150 smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to put out in the community.

He was recognized this week by the Milan Volunteer Fire Department for his efforts.

Wheeler was joined at the ceremony by supporters of his project, including Milan American Legion Post #235 Sons of the Legion and representatives from several local businesses.

Additional details on how the detectors will be distributed will be disclosed at a later date.

“We would also like to thank everyone in the community who contributed funds to help with the cause,” the Milan Volunteer Fire Department wrote in a statement.
