Thomas H. DeWees
August 28, 1935 – August 21, 2025

Thomas “Tom” H. DeWees passed away on August 21, 2025, in Cincinnati, Ohio, just one week shy of his 90th birthday. He was born on August 28, 1935, in Washington Court House, Ohio, to Thomas H. and Ada (Mann) DeWees. Following the death of his father in July 1936, Tom and his mother moved to Georgetown, Ohio, to live with her family.

Tom graduated from Georgetown High School in 1953 and went on to attend the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He was very active in student life and a proud member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. It was at UC that he met his future wife, Nancy, when the two were named co-chairpersons of a university committee. They married in July 1959.

Tom began his career in advertising at a Cincinnati agency, but his path took a turn when his Army Reserve unit was activated during the Berlin Wall Crisis. He was stationed at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, where his daughter Pamela Sue was born in 1962.

After returning from active duty, Tom joined his father-in-law in the automobile business. In 1963, they opened Ande Chevrolet-Olds in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. The family grew again with the birth of his son, Thomas Edward, in August 1964. Tom worked in the dealership as an employee, manager, and eventually owner until the business was sold in 2008.

Even after retiring from the car business, Tom remained active in the community. He worked at WSCH (Eagle Radio) and for Lawrenceburg Main Street. A lifelong sports fan and golfer, Tom often referred to himself as “one of the best worst golfers.” A highlight of his golfing life was the annual tour with his close-knit group known as the “Magnificent 8” / “Fab 5.”

Tom was deeply involved in community life. He volunteered in local government, served on committees at the Dearborn Country Club, participated actively in the Lawrenceburg Kiwanis Club, supported University of Cincinnati Athletics, and was a faithful member of his church.

Tom is survived by his son Thomas E. DeWees (Sandy); son-in-law John Minich (Michelle); grandchildren Mary Kate and T.J. DeWees, Joseph Minich (Liz), and Nicholas Minich (Haley); and great-grandchildren Ayla, Jack, Violet, and Myles Minich.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Nancy, and his daughter Pamela Sue.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church, 4937 State Rt. 48, Lawrenceburg, Indiana 47025. Visitation will take place from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church.

This celebration falls on Ryder Cup weekend and college football Saturday-two of Tom’s favorite things. In his honor, golf and game day attire is encouraged.
