(Greensburg, IN) – Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) is proud to recognize Rehabilitation Physical Therapist Holly Koors and her student, Aaron Black, SPT, for their efforts in giving back to the community through health education.
The pair recently taught a small, hands-on class at the Adult Education Center, giving 17 attendees the opportunity for personal instruction on fall prevention, posture correction, and simple strategies to stay safe and active.
Aaron Black, a student from the Krannert School of Physical Therapy at the University of Indianapolis, has spent the past eight weeks training under Koors as part of his clinical rotation.
He begins his third and final year of graduate school this fall and is expected to graduate in May.
The class covered a range of important topics, including:
- Why falls are a serious concern
- Personal and environmental risk factors
- Practical fall prevention strategies
- The link between good posture, pain, and fall prevention
- Simple exercises to improve posture
- Safe steps to take if a fall occurs
Participants also received educational materials, including a local provider list and a fall prevention checklist.
In addition, Koors and Black introduced the group to DCMH’s upcoming free Total Joint Day event and discussed how conditions like knee osteoarthritis can increase the risk of falls.
“This is a great example of how our team not only serves patients within the hospital walls, but also reaches out to support the broader community,” said Lisa Oldham, Director of Rehabilitation Services at DCMH. “It’s exciting to see our clinicians mentoring future providers while delivering valuable education that helps keep people safe and independent.”
This effort reflects DCMH’s ongoing commitment to building a healthier community through education, both for the next generation of healthcare professionals and for the residents who rely on DCMH for expert care.
Registration for Total Joint Day opened on August 15. To learn more about this event visit dcmh.net/total-joint-day.
