(Batesville, IN) – A familiar name will serve as interim principal at Batesville High School during the second semester of the current school year.

Mel Siefert was previously principal at Batesville Middle School and later Plainfield High School.

Before becoming an administrator, Seifert was the highly-successful longtime boys’ varsity basketball coach at BHS.

He coached the Bulldogs on the hardwood from 1993-94 to 2007-08. His teams won 10 sectional championships, three regional titles, one semi-state crown, and eight Ripley County Tournament championships.

Seifert takes over effective January 2 in place of Andy Allen, who resigned after being hired as Plainfield Community Schools’ Superintendent.

Batesville Community Schools hopes to hire a permanent high school principal early in the second semester, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.
