East Central broke in its new field turf soccer pitch with a 3-1 win on Saturday over Oldenburg Academy. Lucas Inderheese scored a pair of goals to lead the Trojans. Jackson Engle added a score for EC. The Twisters’ lone score came in the second half on a goal by Connor Holder.
South Decatur volleyball outlasted Knightstown in five sets. The Panthers took the first set, 25-20 before the Cougars won the next two, 25-19, 25-23. Knightstown won the fourth set, 25-21 before South Decatur finished things off 15-12 in the fifth set.
In middle school volleyball, Batesville took two from Madison. The Bulldog 7th graders came out on top 25-12, 25-2, while the 8th grade squad dominated, 25-9, 25-10.
Batesville girls golf picked up a pair of wins over Jennings County and host Milan in a tri-match at Kelly’s Hidden Acres. It was the Bulldogs 145, the Panthers 214 and the Indians 230. Batesville senior Ava South earned medalist honors with a one under par 34.
Batesville middle school cross country took two at home over St. Mary’s. It was the Bulldogs over the Knights in the boys race, 19-44. The girls race also went to BMS, 24-35.
The Reds beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-1 late last night in Anaheim in a game heard on WRBI. Gavin Lux hit a two-run homer to get the scoring started for Cincinnati in the top of the 1st inning. Brady Singer earned his 11th win of the year. He allowed just one run, while scattering six hits, striking out four and walking one batter in six innings of work. The Reds try to make it three straight wins in the middle game of the series tonight when Hunter Greene goes to the mound against Kyle Hendricks. Airtime is at 9:08 on 103.9 FM.
The Cincinnati Bengals beat the Washington Commanders 31-17 in NFL preseason action last night in Landover, Maryland. Joe Burrow was 9 of 14 passing for 62 yards and one touchdown. Jake Browning came on and was 16 of 25 for 159 yards and two scores. The Bengals wrap up preseason play Saturday afternoon at home against the Indianapolis Colts.
