East Central is the first high school in Southeastern Indiana to install a soccer-specific artificial turf field. The Trojan boys team will be the first to use it when they host the Oldenburg Academy Twisters on Saturday. The East Central girls team’s first match on the turfed pitch will be a week from today when they welcome in the defending Class 2A state champion Lawrenceburg Tigers.

Jeremy Martin has been named varsity baseball coach at South Dearborn High School. Martin played college baseball at UC and has taught and coached at Thomas More University for the past 26 years, including six as head coach. He replaces Austin Bowling, who guided the Knights to a 12-12 record in his only season at the helm. 

The Reds shut out the Philadelphia Phillies 8-0 in the series wrap up last night at Great American Ball Park in a game heard on WRBI. With the win, Cincinnati takes two out of three from the National League East-leading Phillies. Hunter Greene was activated from the injured list and made his first start since June 3, and was brilliant. Greene tossed six shutout innings and gave up three hits while striking out six and not walking a batter. Noelvi Marte extended his hitting streak to five games. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the 4th inning and a run-scoring single in the 6th. Miguel Andujar put the game away in the 7th when he clubbed a grand slam to left field. It was Andujar’s third homer since joining the Reds and his ninth of the season. The Reds are off today before starting a three-game weekend series at GABP tomorrow night against the NL Central Division-leading Milwaukee Brewers. Nick Martinez gets the start for Cincinnati. Airtime on 103.9 FM tomorrow night is 6:10.

Before Wednesday’s game, the Reds optioned righthanded pitcher Sam Benschoter to Triple-A Louisville to make room for Greene on the roster.

The Indianapolis Colts’ joint practices with the Green Bay Packers this week will put a cap on 2025 training camp. Head coach Shane Steichen says Daniel Jones will be the starting quarterback when the two teams meet on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium. But Steichen adds Anthony Richardson will be get more snaps. So far, the competition between the two quarterbacks is neck and neck. Steichen has not offered a timetable for when he will make a decision on a starter.

The Indiana Hoosiers football team is progressing through Fall camp. Offensive lineman Drew Evans is just happy to be back in the mix after he was injured against Michigan last season. Kellan Wyatt is a defensive player who is new for the Hoosiers. He told the media on Wednesday that he always felt IU was a competitive team when he played against them when he was at Maryland. Wyatt adds he hopes to be part of “something special” this season.

The Indiana Fever play tomorrow against the Washington Mystics and head coach Stephanie White is pleading for better officiating. She berated officials after the team’s loss to Dallas on Tuesday. White also said that the team’s margin for error has gotten smaller as they begin to flirt with a spot in the WNBA Playoffs. Right now the Fever are third in the Eastern Conference.

The NBA has announced the Indiana Pacers’ schedule for the Group Play stage of the league’s third annual in-season competition. Indiana will host Atlanta on Halloween night before visiting Cleveland on November 21. The Pacers will then visit Toronto on November 26 before hosting Washington on the 28th.
