Leslie Stewart, 86, Milan

Leslie Stewart was born on March 17, 1939, in the hills of Clay County, Kentucky, to Marion and Lula (Davidson) Stewart. He was welcomed to Glory in the early morning hours of August 8th, 2025, surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of service, strength, and faith.

A proud veteran, Leslie served our country with honor in the United States Army. He was a devoted member of Pipecreek Freewill Baptist Church in Penntown, Indiana, where he also served as a Sunday School teacher, and a 50+ year member of the Sunman Masonic Lodge #590, the Cincinnati Scottish Rite, and the NRA. He also served faithfully in the Sunman American Legion. Leslie’s life was marked by quiet dedication—to his country, his church, his family, and his community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Lula Stewart; brothers: Floyd, Levi (his twin), Jarman, and J.B.; and sister, Francis England.

On April 8, 1967, Leslie married the love of his life, Margaret (Wolford) Stewart. Together they shared a beautiful life, raising two sons, Matthew (Sarah) and Michael (Jennifer), and celebrating the joy of five grandchildren – Owen, River, Elijah, Lakelyn, and Primrose.

In addition to serving his church, Leslie loved tending the land—faithfully caring for the family farm in Milan, Indiana, with the same devotion he gave to all things in his life. Not only was Leslie a Scoutmaster who endured countless nights of restless sleep camping, but he was also the best Pinewood Derby crew chief a boy could ever have.

Family and friends are invited to join us at Meyers Funeral Home (Batesville, Indiana) on Wednesday, August 20th, 2025.  A Masonic ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m., followed by a visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The funeral ceremony will take place at 1:00 p.m., and a committal service will follow at St. Paul Cemetery in Sunman, Indiana, with military honors conducted by Sunman American Legion Post 337.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Leslie’s memory may be made to Pipecreek Freewill Baptist Church, Penntown, IN or Sunman Fire Department.
