Batesville girls golf finished third at the New Albany Invitational on Saturday. As a team, the Bulldogs carded a 326. Individually, senior Ava Smith earned medalist honors by shooting an even par 71. Freshman Stella Maple carded a two over 73 to earn a third place finish. East Central senior Rowan Pies shot a one over par 72 and came in second.
The Reds outslugged the Pirates 14-8 in Pittsburgh in a game heard yesterday on WRBI. Taking back-to-back games allowed the Reds to split the four-game series. Spencer Steer and Noelvi both went 3-for-5 with a home run and four driven in a piece. Miguel Andujar also homered. Scott Barlow gets the win in relief to improve to 6-0 on the year. With yesterday’s win, The Reds improve to 62-57 and – combined with the New York Mets’ loss at Milwaukee – puts Cincinnati within 1 1/2 games for the final National League Wild Card spot. The Reds open a six-game homestand with the first of three tonight against the NL Eastern Division-leading Philadelphia Phillies. Lefthander Andrew Abbott (8-2, 2.34 earned run average) starts for Cincinnati. Philly counters with righthander Taijuan Walker (4-5, 3.53 ERA). Coverage begins at 5:40 on 103.9 FM.
Hunter Greene will be activated from the Injured List on Wednesday and start that night against the Phillies. Greene has been out since early June with a right groin strain. He was sidelined with the same injury for two weeks in May. Greene is 4-3 with a 2.72 ERA in 11 starts this season.
Will Power took the checkered flag for the second straight year at IndyCar’s Grand Prix of Portland yesterday. Alex Palou clinched his third straight circuit championship and fourth overall with his third place finish in yesterday’s race.
The Indianapolis Colts continued training camp yesterday in Westfield. Anthony Richardson went 11 for 17 on the day, making a significant stride from Saturday as he continues to deal with that dislocated pinky finger. Daniel Jones went 9 for 16 on the day, while head coach Shane Steichen continues to note that Jones will start in Saturday’s preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. Practice continues today from 4-5:40 p.m.
The Indiana Fever return to action tomorrow night to take on Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings. The Fever are coming off a 90-72 win over the Chicago Sky on Saturday night. This will be the fourth and final time this season that the Fever and Wings will play each other, with Indiana winning the first three match ups. The Fever also signed Odyssey Sims yesterday to a hardship contract. Tipoff tomorrow is at 7:30 p.m.
