State Bullying in School Law Takes Effect

(Statewide) – With kids heading back to school, Indiana educators are preparing to incorporate a new state law that deals with bullying.

During the 2023-2024 school year, Indiana schools reported 7,700 instances of bullying.

According to the Indiana Department of Education, that is the highest number of incidents reported in the last 10 years.

The new law was passed this spring and stipulates that schools must notify parents of alleged bullying incidents by the time school day ends after having learned of the incident.

The previous time to report was five days.

Schools must also notify the parents of the alleged bullying victim and the alleged bully.
