IDEM Forecasts Air Quality Action Day

(Southeastern IN) – The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has forecast an Air Quality Action Day (AQAD) for Wednesday, July 23 in Southeastern Indiana.

Ozone levels are expected to be in the Orange or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range.

Above average temperatures, sunny skies and light winds and some light wild fire smoke are expected tomorrow as high pressure settles in over the area that will lead to conditions that are suitable for ozone development.

These conditions will produce high Ozone readings into the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) for Central/East Central and Southeastern Indiana.

The Air Quality Action Day is in effect from midnight to 11:59 p.m. (24-hours) tomorrow.

IDEM says on Alert days, you can help reduce ozone by taking the following actions:

* Carpool, if possible, bike, walk or take the bus instead of driving alone.

* Refuel your vehicle after 8 pm.

* Do not idle your vehicle, exhaust contributes to air pollution.

* Mow your lawn in the evening hours and avoid the use of gas-powered lawn equipment.
