(Franklin/Union Counties, IN) – A ceremony will be held on Friday, July 25 at 1 p.m. to celebrate 50 years of Brookville Lake.
The event will take place at the Overlook Recreation Area.
You’re asked to bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the ceremony as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and others celebrate the legacy of Brookville Lake.
The lake was created in 1975 mainly for flood control with a dam that was dedicated by then-Gov. Otis Bowen.
Other notable attendees at the dedication ceremony included then-U.S. Senator Vance Hartke, then-Congressman Lee Hamilton, and officials from the Corps of Engineers.
It estimated the lake straddling the Franklin/Union County line has pumped nearly $100 million into the area’s economy since its creation.
