Batesville grad Will Jaisle has been named to the 2025 Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association 3A All-State Team. Jaisle joins Joe Hartman, Bryan Hoeing, and Zach Britton as the only players in Batesville Baseball history to be voted first team all-state. The honor is voted on by the coaches across the state. Jaisle, who will pitch next year at Notre Dame, was also named to the Prep Baseball Report’s All State team.
Zach Wheeler tossed a complete game one-hitter, and the Phillies beat the Reds 3-1 yesterday afternoon in Philadelphia in a game heard on WRBI. Wheeler faced one batter above the minimum, and the only hit he allowed was a home run by Austin Hays to lead off the 5th inning. He also struck out 12 and did not walk a batter. Tony Santillan gave up a two-run, tie-breaking homer to Bryson Stott in the bottom of the 8th and took the loss in relief for Cincinnati. The Reds return home tonight for the final week before the All-Star break when they start a four-game series against the Miami Marlins. Brady Singer gets the start for the Reds. Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz has been named a National League All-Star for the second straight year. De La Cruz leads all MLB shortstops with 18 home runs and 60 runs batted in. He’s the lone Reds representative but more could be added. Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game will be played next Tuesday in Atlanta.
Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell has been named as a reserve for the July 19 WNBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis. Mitchell leads the Fever in scoring this season at a career-high 19.3 points per game, which is good for fifth overall in the league this season. This is Mitchell’s third All-Star selection.
The Indiana Pacers have acquired center Jay Huff from the Memphis Grizzlies. In exchange, the Pacers will send a second-round pick and a second-round pick swap to Memphis. Huff averaged just under seven points and two rebounds per game last year for the Grizzlies.
Scott Dixon took the checkered flag at yesterday’s IndyCar race at Mid Ohio. It’s Dixon’s first win on the circuit this year.
