(Franklin County, IN) – In light of the current extreme heat we’re experiencing, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is out with a reminder that just a few minutes in a parked vehicle can turn deadly for children and pets.

For example, on an 85-degree day, the inside of a car can reach over 100 degrees Fahrenheit in just 10 minutes – even with the windows cracked.

Deputies say each year, preventable tragedies occur because someone thought they’d only be a minute.

You’re reminded to never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle – not even for a short errand.

If you see a child or pet alone in a car, immediately call 911.

Also, you’re urged to check the back seat every time you leave your vehicle.
