Charlestown knocked off Franklin County 9-4 in the Class 3A softball regional at Brookville in a game heard last evening on the Sports Voice.  It’s the Pirates’ first regional championship since 1997.  The Wildcats of coach Matt Perleberg end the season at 13-12.

Tri got past Milan 2-1 in the 1A softball regional on the Titans’ home diamond. The Indians finish the season with a 25-10 record.

The Reds doubled up the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 last night at Great American Ball Park in a game heard on WRBI. The win snaps Cincinnati’s three-game losing skid and snapped the Brewers’ eight-game winning streak. Hunter Greene struck out seven over five innings but did not figure into the decision. Tyler Stephenson tied the game with a two-run homer in the 4th inning; Connor Joe put the Reds in front with a sacrifice fly in the 7th, and Will Benson added an insurance run an inning later with a solo homer. The Brewers had the tying run at the plate in the top of the 9th when Jake Bauers lifted a drive to straight away centerfield. T.J. Friedl robbed him of what would have been a game-tying two-run homer for the final out. With the series even at a game a piece, the Reds turn to Andrew Abbott to try and nail down the series win this afternoon. WRBI coverage begins following the Noon news block.
