Marjorie “Marge” Lenora (Bohl) Oelker December 31, 1932 – May 31, 2025
Marjorie passed away peacefully at the Nazareth Home in Louisville, KY on May 31, 2025. She was born December 31, 1932 in Brookville, (Southgate) IN, the daughter of Frederick and Alvina (Minnemann) Bohl. Growing up on a family farm, she attended grades 1-8 in a one-room school. She graduated from Brookville High School in 1951 and became engaged to Robert “Bob” Oelker on her graduation day. For 2 years, while Bob was deployed in the U.S, Army in Germany, Marge worked at Cincinnati Gas & Electric. When Bob returned home, they were married on April 11, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Klemmes Corner. For more than 60 years Bob and Marge resided in their home on Ludlow Hill – Lawrenceburg , IN. Together they built a loving, faith-centered marriage that lasted 71 years.
Marge was a diligent and dedicated woman of her generation. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, homemaker, friend, gardener, and church and community member. As an active member at St. John’s Lutheran Church (Bellaire), Marge served in many ministries including Women’s Groups, Sunday School, VBS, and secretarial duties. She attended many Church conferences and conventions and also served as registrar of Lutheran Youth Camp and a Board Member of the local Church Women United. She also worked at the Dearborn County election sites. Marge enjoyed playing the piano, organ, singing in choirs, and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her daughter Cindy (Tom) Moreo – Toledo, OH; her son, Dale (Tonja) Oelker – Louisville, KY; Daughter-in-law, Joy Oelker – Laurel, IN; Sister-in-law, Dorothy Lattire – Aurora, IN. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Chris Oelker; Redford Melyn; Rachel (Brendan) Williams; Ryan (Kristen) Oelker, Ciara Russell; Joni (Gage) Dunbar; Amanda Moreo; Mary Jo (Mark) Hensley, Marci (Travis) Smith; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Marge was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert, son Jeff, infant son Stephen, brother Floyd Bohl, sister Lorene Lanvermeyer, and sister-in-law Janet Oelker.
Visitation will be at St. John Lutheran Church in Lawrenceburg, IN on Wednesday, June 4th from 5pm-7pm; and Thursday, June 5th at 10am followed by the funeral service at 11am, with internment at St, John’s Cemetery.
