Vernon Russell Moody, 87

Never knowing a stranger, Vernon Russell Moody, age 87 of Batesville, touched a lot of lives. On the evening of Sunday, May 25, 2025 he embarked on his heavenly journey, joining his wife Marjorie in eternal peace. That day commemorates the anniversary of Marjorie’s passing.

Vernon was born July 15, 1937 the son of Lester and Marie (Ashcraft) Moody in Batesville, Indiana. He was married to Marjorie (Burton) for 62 years, and they had three children – Mark, Teresa, and Tammy. He was a member of the Berean Baptist Church in Batesville and the Batesville Eagles Aerie #1130.

His selfless spirit led him to serve in the US Army, with tours in Korea and Japan, and devote 45 years to the Batesville Street department. As a soccer coach for 10 seasons, he uplifted his players. He was passionate about exploring new destinations, playing cards and games, and sharing moments with family and friends.

Vernon will be deeply missed by his children, Mark (Amber) Moody of Milan and Tammy (Scott) Miller of Batesville; grandchildren, Scott Miller Jr., Kimberly (Jeff) Hobbs, Steven (Nicole) Miller, Andrew Miller, Kyle (Keshia) Little, Cheyenne Moody, Layla (Josh Rowlett) Johnson; great grandchildren, Mason Miller, Brynn Miller, Colton Miller, Bryanna Rowlett, Shelby Little, Alaina Little, Emma Little, Kyle Little Jr., Timothy Phelps, and Greyson Phelps; and a great grandchild due in July 2025 plus another due in January 2026.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Moody and all of his siblings – Jess Moody, Cecil Moody Sr., Bob Moody, Caroline Browder, Cordelia (Sis) Hoegeman, Shirley Herbert, and half-brother Elmore Franklin.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 5-8 p.m., and funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 29th, all at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Pastor Steve Hasselbusch will officiate. Burial will follow in the Batesville United Methodist Church Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Batesville VFW Post #3183 and Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271.
