Batesville shut out South Dearborn 7-0 in varsity baseball last evening. Will Jaisle struck out 12, gave up 1 hit and no walks in six innings of work on Senior Night. Dane Dudley and Carson Schneider each had two hits for the Bulldogs, who go to 18-5 on the year and 11-2 in the EIAC.
South Ripley run ruled Shawe Memorial 11-1. Trenton Smith and Brady Ruble each had two hits for the Raiders. Braxton Wilson pitched five innings. gave up two hits, one earned run, a walk and struck out five Hilltoppers.
In junior high baseball, it was North Decatur over Morristown 13-4.
East Central hosted and won the 15-team boys track and field sectional last evening. The Trojans finished with 127 points, just ahead of second place Batesville, which had 124. Franklin County came in 4th place (45.5) and Oldenburg Academy finished 10th (19).
Batesville boys golf topped Columbus East 158-183 on Senior Night at Hillcrest. Sophomore Ian Hixson and junior Jon Moody shared medalist honors; both carded a 38.

The Reds open a three game Memorial Day weekend series at home tonight against the NL Central-leading Chicago Cubs. Hunter Greene makes his return from the injured list and gets the start for Cincinnati. He’ll be opposed by Cubs lefty Matthew Boyd. First pitch is at 6:40.
To make room on the roster for Greene, the Reds optioned pitcher Lyon Richardson to Triple-A Louisville.
IndyCar is considering creating an independent governing body following this week’s Team Penske cheating scandal stemming from Indianapolis 500 qualifying. The governing body would not include any of racing team owner Roger Penske employees. Competitors have alleged Penske cars get preferential treatment. Penske bought the IndyCar series and Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2019. Meanwhile, you can hear the 109th running of the Indy 500 on WRBI. Coverage begins Sunday morning at 11:30.
