ND Jr. High Baseball Walks Off Waldron

(Greensburg, IN) – It came down to the wire on Monday at North Decatur High School, as the Chargers junior high team grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 6-5, over Waldron.

The game was tied at five in the bottom of the eighth when Jake Whitaker singled, scoring one run.

Ross Gorrell collected three hits in four at bats in the win. Gorrell doubled in the fourth inning, doubled in the first inning, and singled in the third inning.

Waldron opened the scoring in the first after Nathan Stocklin grounded out, scoring one run.

In the bottom of the first inning, North Decatur  went back into the lead after Tyler Harpring singled down the right field line, and Ross Gorrell doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run.

Noah Leap grounded out, which helped Waldron tie the game at two in the top of the third.

North Decatur took the lead in the bottom of the third. An error scored one run, to give the Chargers the leg up, 3-2.

ND committed an error, which helped Waldron tie the game at five in the top of the seventh.

Gorrell earned the win for North Decatur. He gave up three hits and two runs over four innings, striking out four and walking two. Noah Leap took the loss for Waldron. Leap went two innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out three and walking two. Chase Litmer and Sterling Rohls each appeared in relief for North Decatur.

The Chargers amassed 11 hits in the game. Gorrell and Whitaker each collected three hits for North Decatur. Camden O’dell collected two hits for the Chargers in four at bats.

Next up for the North Decatur junior high team is a game at Switzerland County on Tuesday.
