Ann Marie Race, of Brookville, was born on June 8, 1983, in Oxford Ohio, a daughter to Robert “Hoss” and Peggy Fledderman Race. She graduated from Franklin County High School and then earned her Associate Degree of Culinary Art from Sullivan University in Louisville, Kentucky. During her career she held every position from dishwasher to executive chef. Her 14 years of management as executive chef were spent at Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse in Louisville, and The Village Anchor in Louisville. She then went back to Sullivan University to serve as Executive Chef Department Head in an operation and training position.
When Ann moved back to Brookville, she opened Rudy’s Food Truck (named after Grandpa Rudy), just for the fun of it. Ann loved the training aspect of her career. She was a member of and served as Culinary Executive Chef (CEC) American Culinary Federation, Culinary Chair ProStart Kentucky, and Proctor Skills USA, Kentucky. She was featured in “Voice Magazine,” served as a member of the Sullivan Culinary Board, and was the Kentucky State Fair “Cast Iron Chef” winner. Ann once said, “My goal every day is to continue to learn and to teach what I have learned in the culinary industry. I strive to be the best of the best by using my talents to reach my full potential and work with my staff to encourage them to do the same.” She enjoyed any kind of competition, teaching people how to cook, going out to eat with family and friends, getting her nails done and taking off on last minute driving trips. On Monday, May 12, 2025, at the age of 41, she passed away at her residence after a lengthy illness.
Ann loved life and being a mother to her wonderful son, Jordan. All her family loved her and miss her. God Bless you Ann.
