Marita Jean Stevens, age 87, of Milan, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, at Christ Hospital.
She was born on August 22, 1937, in Greensburg, Indiana, the daughter of George and Edna (Stewart) Schwier. A 1955 graduate of New Point High School, Marita married the love of her life, William Robert Stevens, on June 19 of that same year. They shared 64 years of marriage before his passing in 2019.
Marita dedicated much of her life to serving others, working with the Agency on Aging and Medi-cab until her retirement. She was a school bus driver for many years for North Decatur Schools. She will be remembered for her quiet strength, compassion, and deep devotion to her family.
She is survived by her children, Sheryle Pickett, David L. Stevens, William (Rita) Stevens, and Richard (Jenny) Stevens; nephew, Tom Flemming; 5 grandchildren; 4 step grandsons; and several great grandchildren. Marita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William; her “favorite” son-in-law, Ron Pickett; granddaughter, Patricia Stevens and all of her siblings.
A private funeral service was held for family at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, and Marita was laid to rest alongside her husband at Rossburg Cemetery.
