Mrs. Nancy Jean (Sweeney) Peters, age 84, entered this life on April 26, 1941 in Batesville, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Anna B. (Zimmerman) Sweeney. She was raised in Lawrenceburg, Indiana where she was a 1959 graduate of the Lawrenceburg High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Mount St. Joseph University in 1980 and went on to receive her master’s degree in 1988. Nancy was united in marriage to Gerald H. Peters on August 17, 1963 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. This union of nearly 59 years was blessed with three children. Nancy was a former middle school language arts teacher for Three Rivers Local School District in Cleves, Ohio, retiring in 2006, after 25 years of dedicated service. She also served as a board member for the Switzerland County School Corporation, demonstrating her continued commitment to education. Nancy was a member of the Most Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church and was a charter member of the Switzerland County YMCA. Nancy enjoyed quilting, gardening and playing pickleball, tennis, as well as, bridge. Nancy passed away at 9:40 a.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the Hospice of Cincinnati.
Nancy is survived by her sons and daughter, Andrew Gerald Peters and his wife, Suzanne of Union, KY, Sarah “Sally” Mulligan and her husband, Donald of Cincinnati, OH, and Daniel Gerald Peters and his companion, Sue Beckman of Cincinnati, OH; her grandchildren, Abbey Mulligan, Jake Mulligan, Emma Peters, and Audrey Peters; her nieces, Sue Kokulis and her husband, George of Boston, MA, and Jennifer VanMeter and her husband, Daniel of Brookville, IN and their families; her brother, John Sweeney and his wife, Jody of Harrison, OH; her sister, Kathy Sweeney of GA; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tom and Joan Peters and Bob and Terri Peters all of Cincinnati, OH and their families.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lee Sweeney, died May 24, 1990; her mother, Anna B. (Zimmerman) Sweeney, died March 7, 2005; her husband, Gerald H. Peters, died March 18, 2022.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the Most Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church, 591 North Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the Most Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church, 591 North Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Interment will be conducted in the St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery in Olean, Indiana.
