ND Outslugs OA 12-7

(Batesville, IN) – Grayson Downey collected three hits in three at bats, as the North Decatur Chargers defeated the Oldenburg Academy Twisters 12-7 in varsity baseball Monday on Ace Moorman Field at Batesville’s Liberty Park. Downey doubled in the fifth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the third inning.

The Chargers were the first to get on the board in the first when Kamdenn McKinney grounded out, scoring one run.

ND added one run in the third. Matthew Fields tripled down the right field line, making the score 2-0.

The Twisters scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Connor Holder singled, scoring one run, Clay Eckstein singled, scoring two runs, and Jacob Stenger singled, scoring two runs.

Eli Trenkamp earned the win for North Decatur. The righty allowed six hits and six runs (five earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking two.

Zach Hoff took the loss for OA. He went three and one-third innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking three.

Fields pitched one inning of scoreless ball for North Decatur in relief. The right-handed pitcher allowed one hit, striking out three and walking one.

The Chargers amassed 10 hits in the game. McKinney collected two hits for ND in five at bats. Hayden Koehne paced the Chargers with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying 10 walks for the game. Downey stole two bases.

Oldenburg collected 10 hits in the game. Eckstein, Hoff, and Stenger had two hits a piece for the Twisters. Eckstein and Stenger were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup – each drove in two runs for OA.

The Twisters turned one double play in the game, and played error free baseball. Juston Dietz had the most chances in the field with 10.

Next up for North Decatur Varsity Chargers is a game against Rushville on Wednesday.
