(Batesville, IN) – Being aware and observant of their surroundings, taking charge in critical moments, and staying committed to what’s best for the Y—these are just a few of the remarkable qualities demonstrated by the Southeastern Indiana YMCA’s latest SOAR Award recipients.

At the April Board of Directors meeting, Katie Oesterling, Tameeka Sizemore, and Andi Roberts were recognized for their outstanding service and dedication to the YMCA’s mission.

The spotlight moment came recently when Katie Oesterling noticed a member slumped over on an outdoor bench. Her quick thinking and immediate response to alert Membership and Operations Director Tameeka Sizemore set in motion a life-saving chain of action.

“This isn’t the first time Oesterling has noticed a member in need,” said Tara Britton, Chief Executive Officer of the Southeastern Indiana YMCA.

During the award presentation, Amber Rossman, Youth Experience Director, added, “From my office location, I have the privilege of hearing Oesterling interact with members. From kids to adults of all ages, she’s always checking in—asking if they’re okay or if they need help. She truly represents the Y’s core values of honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility.”

Presenting the award to Andi Roberts, Britton said, “Not many are aware of what goes on behind the scenes in preparing all of our financials. She’s amazing at keeping me on track and flagging things that need attention. But what really sets her apart is how much she genuinely cares about every area of the Y. She doesn’t just stick to finance—she does her research, shares ideas, and supports programs across the board.”

“I want to thank these exemplary staff members for going above and beyond in demonstrating the core beliefs and mission of the Y,” said Britton. “Their actions reflect the heart of our organization—showing care, responsibility, and unwavering commitment to our community.”
