South Ripley got past Switzerland County 4-3 in varsity baseball over the weekend.

In girls tennis, Batesville defeated Franklin County in straight sets, 5-0 on Friday. It’s the Bulldogs second win of the season. Batesville took the JV match 4 sets to none…East Central got past Batesville in girls varsity tennis 3 sets to 2 on Saturday. Batesville won the JV match in straight sets.

Batesville boys and girls track and field posted top five finishes at Saturday’s Bill Self Invitational at Franklin Community. The Bulldog boys came in second behind the host Grizzly Cubs, while the BHS girls finished third behind Franklin Community and Perry Meridian. Batesville overall had 10 first place finishes and nearly 30 personal best performances.

The Reds crushed the Baltimore Orioles 24-2 in the series wrap up at Camden Yards as heard yesterday on WRBI. Cincinnati pounded out 25 hits and scored nine runs in the final 2 innings off Oriole position players. Austin Wynns went 6 for 7 at the plate with a home run and six runs batted in. And Noelvi Marte went 5 for 7 with a grand slam, two doubles and five driven in. Cincinnati put up historic numbers in the rout. The Reds scored 24 runs for the fourth time since 1901, with the last time coming at Colorado on May 19, 1999. The team record is 26, which came on June 4, 1911, vs. the Boston Braves. The Reds’ 25 hits were also their most since the aforementioned game against the Rockies, when they collected 28…

The Reds road trip continues when they open a three-game series tonight in Miami against the Marlins. Nick Lodolo returns from Paternity List and will start for Cincinnati. He’ll be opposed by righthander Max Meyer. Coverage on the Sports Voice begins at 6:40 following Coaches Corner.

Before yesterday’s game, the Reds placed righthanded pitcher Carson Spiers on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement. Spiers was replaced on the active roster by fellow righthanded pitcher Randy Wynne, who was called up from Triple-A Louisville. Wynne is expected to be sent back down when Lodolo is reactivated.
