(Batesville, IN) – Ace Moorman Field at Batesville’s Liberty Park was officially dedicated during a ceremony on Saturday afternoon.

The field is named in memory of longtime coach Thomas “Ace” Moorman, who passed away in December at the age of 89.

It was renamed by the City of Batesville earlier this year.

Moorman played on the field that now bears his name, and started his baseball journey in 1940 with American Legion Post #271 while he was still in junior high school.

He went on to star for the undefeated Batesville Bulldogs high school baseball team, and later in the summer of 1953, he helped Post #271 earn a trip the American Legion State Finals.

Moorman graduated to the Tri-County League and played for the Batesville Bullets.

After his playing days ended, Moorman coached for more than 25 years.
