Oldenburg, IN – It was a chilly, yet very sunny day for opening day at Liberty Park where the Oldenburg Twisters hosted the Waldron Mohawks in game 1 of the year.
Waldron opened the scoring in the first after a passed ball scored one run. However, in the bottom half of the frame, the Mohawks committed an error on a Clay Eckstein ball in-play that hit off the knob of Eckstein’s bat. This error helped the Twisters tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. Jacob Stenger then hit a ground ball to regain the lead and the Twisters secured the win with a single up the middle by Dietz.
Both pitchers dueled all game, but Stenger came out on top, throwing a complete game. He allowed 2 hits and 1 run (0 earned) striking out 9 batters and walking 2. “What a great tone setting outing Stenger gave us today.” Coach Kolks said.
Adam Weber and Juston Dietz each collected one hit for the Twisters. Clay Eckstein, Stenger, and Dietz each drove in one run for Oldenburg Academy Varsity Twisters.
