South Ripley’s Cole Henry was honored this week by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association. Henry and teammate Blaine Ward played key roles in leading the Raiders to a berth in the Class 2A regional. Henry showcased his inside presence and Ward excelled from the perimeter.
Indiana University has hired Darien DeVries as men’s head basketball coach. He replaces Mike Woodson, who announced last month he was stepping away from the head coaching role at his alma mater. DeVries comes to Bloomington after one season at West Virginia. Prior to that, DeVries had a six-year run at Drake, where he amassed a 150-55 record and led the Bulldogs to three NCAA Tournament appearances while winning the Missouri Valley Conference tournament twice and the MVC’s regular season crown once.
In the opening night of the NCAA Tournament’s First Four in Dayton, Ohio, Alabama State got past St. Francis in a thriller, 70-68, and North Carolina rolled over San Diego State, 95-68. Coming up tonight, American University plays Mt. St. Mary’s in the lid lifter, and the Xavier Musketeers go up against Texas in the nightcap.
The Bengals made it official yesterday when they announced wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase signed a four-year contract extension that will keep him in stripes through the 2029 season. Fellow wideout Tee Higgins re-signed with the Bengals for four years. The deal will keep him in Cincinnati through the 2028 season.
The Reds shut out the Los Angeles Angels 1-0 in Cactus League baseball yesterday in Goodyear, Arizona. Cincinnati entertains the Kansas City Royals this afternoon. First pitch in Goodyear at 4:05.
